ROYAL BELUM INTERNATIONAL HORNBILL EXPEDITION 2018

It's that time of year again. ECOMY's signature event - Royal Belum International Hornbill The Royal Belum International Hornbill Expedition 2018 will be organised again by ECOMY. This year we will be joined and supported by friends namely Belum Forest Friends (BFF), Belum Rainforest Resort, EMKAY and Perak State Park Corporation. We are hosting 5 countries this year and will also be training local guides, 3-5th September 2018.This is an amazing opportunity to survey the world’s oldest rainforest (estimated to be over 130 million years old) for its amazing hornbill population. KAMPUNGKU PROJECT AT KAMPUNG AUR, 17-18 AUGUST 2018

ECOMY’s signature event for the second time running was another resounding success. This year, apart from Lewis & Clark College, Portland, we had 2 new dedicated corporate partners i.e. Veritas Design Group & Haskell Malaysia. The Bird Group Taman Negara remains our local partner to help us monitor the project equipment and continuously engage with the community of Kampung Aur, Tembeling River (Taman Negara). This indigenous community of Bateq lives off the grid and was very warm in their welcome towards our approach to furnish them with easy use mobile camping solar panels and lights. 15 units were presented to 15 happy households. KAMPUNGKU PROJECT FOR 2018

17-18th August 2018, Kuala Tahan, Pahang, MALAYSIA. Organised by: Ecotourism & Conservation Society Malaysia (ECOMY) and supported by Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Veritas Design Group & Haskell Malaysia. Bird Group Taman Negara will act as Ground Monitoring Team (set up & quarterly monitoring) Objective: To engage and assist with the orang asli community (Bateq/Batik tribe) of Kampung Aur. They live mainly off the grid, along the Tembeling River which is the boundary of Taman Negara (National Park). The nearest town is Kuala Tahan. Access to Kampung Aur will be an hour-long boat ride to the Kampung Aur. Our Base Camp will be at Tembeling Riverview Motel (simple-twin share rooms).

Merdeka Month Camp 2018 - "Sayangi Malaysiaku"

In conjunction with Malaysia's independence month 2018, the Vale Eco Centre (VEC) held its "Merdeka Month Camp" on Sunday 11th August 2018 with a total of 73 participants from 12 campuses University Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) throughout Malaysia, volunteers, as well as local communities. The theme of this year's independence is "Sayangi Malaysiaku", the VEC has highlighted environmental issues, so a short talk on environmental freedom in Malaysia has been presented.
